Time for merrymaking so open the bar and whip out the spirits!   I wanted to make an Asian-inspired sangria for our holiday table, so I came up with this delightful White Wine Lychee Sangria. It was one of the finest combinations of fruit and wine in a pitcher.

If you haven’t had lychees yet, well then, there’s no better time than now to enjoy it.  Fresh lychees are shaped round to oval, measuring nearly two inches in diameter, with a red, coarse skin. Once you peel the slightly tough outer skin, you’re in for the most delectable fruit treats.

Inside, the lychee is colored  white, light pink that’s nearly translucent. It has the slippery, jelly-like consistency of a thick grape. It’s sweet, succulent and has a delicate floral, lingering scent to it. The lychees are abundant in Asian countries like China, Malaysia, the Philippines and others. Here in America, if I can’t get to Chinatown, then I use canned lychees for this beverage or other recipes.

In addition, I used a Fuji apple, which originated in Japan, but is now widely available here in the States. The Fuji apple is my favorite. It is huge and has a bright, red shiny luster. Once you bite into its honey-like sweetness, you will be transported to apple-heaven.

So mix it up. Pour all the wine, juices, ginger ale, and fruits a few hours before the party. Blend it all well. Pick a party pitcher, garnish and chill it a few hours before guests arrive. Everybody is going to enjoy this refreshing, Asian-inspired drink that starts shy but later on kicks in to give you a very festive feeling. Cheers!

White Wine Lychee Sangria

This White Wine Lychee Sangria is the white wine version of the red cocktail drink. I used a whole bottle of Sauvignon Blanc for this beverage. And the addition of sweet lychees and slices of Fuji apples made for a fun concoction. This is an Asian in America recipe inspired by Constante G. Quirino. Serves 2 to 4 people.

  1. This was so good! It wasn’t overly sweet like some white sangrias. There is a good balance with the apple and lychees. It’s definitely a good option for the summer too when having a BBQ. So delicious

  2. This sounds so good! And I don’t drink alcohol much. I love lychee and I think anything that tastes lychee will be my type of drink! I have to keep this recipe and try it. I might get addicted to the taste… =)

  3. just wanted to let you know I make this recipe for my weeksends off, although occasionally I’ll throw pear and peach into the mix too alond with the lychee, but the pear and peach would be frozen and added to the glass then sangria poured over to keep my glass chilled as I sip through out the night. best sangria recipe ever.
